Stiftung Solarenergie and GET.invest strengthen cooperation to empower African energy startups

GET.invest is pleased to announce the continuation of its partnership with Stiftung Solarenergie (the Solar Energy Foundation). Since 2021, both organisations have been supporting the growth of African energy startups through the Startup|Energy initiative. Implemented in cooperation with the University of Freiburg, the accelerator programme has been instrumental in fostering the development of local startups in the decentralised renewable energy sector. The collaboration will place special emphasis on supporting startups led by women and those from underrepresented regions, promoting gender inclusivity and geographic diversity.

The insights gained in previous years provide the basis for the extended partnership that has now been agreed. Central to this initiative are the Energy Camps, intensive multi-day workshops designed to equip early-stage startups with the skills and knowledge they need to refine their business models and improve their product viability. Over the next two years, four multi-day camps will be held, further aiming at helping entrepreneurs connect with peers and present their innovations to potential investors. Through peer-to-peer learning, expert coaching, and practical sessions, participating startups gain insights into challenges specific to founding and scaling a business in Africa’s dynamic energy market.

While the Energy Camps focus primarily on building strong business models and market viability, participating companies will also have the opportunity to be introduced to topics such as navigating the complex landscape of investment and financial planning. By linking the Energy Camps with GET.invest’s advisory services, the partnership addresses one of the most significant barriers to growth for African startups: access to finance.

Since its launch in 2020, the Startup|Energy programme has supported 14 startups from seven African countries, helping them raise USD 2.6 million in grants, loans, and equity. These startups have not only contributed to increasing energy access but have also created numerous jobs in their communities. With the continued support from GET.invest, Stiftung Solarenergie aims to extend this success, empowering even more startups to achieve financial sustainability and expand their impact.
