Electrifying Rural Health Facilities: Ongoing Initiatives & Innovative Solutions

In the first of a series of two webinars, the Alliance for Rural Electrification (ARE), supported by GET.invest, invites you to join public and private sector participants in learning about the potential of decentralised renewables (DRE) for delivering clean, reliable and affordable power for rural health facilities in emerging countries.

Join us on 18 June, 2.00-4.15 CEST for:

• Discussions on lessons learnt from ongoing initiatives focusing on electrifying rural health facilities with decentralised renewables;
• Presentations from selected private sector companies offering innovative and ‘ready-to-go’ solutions to electrify health facilities;
• Q&A with the audience.

According to the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) 400 million people in Sub-Saharan Africa and South Asia depend on health facilities that have no access to electricity. In addition, existing access to electricity in hospitals is often unreliable. The critical importance of reliable electricity supply for health facilities has been underscored by the Covid-19 crisis, which threatens to hit vulnerable and remote communities in emerging countries disproportionally hard. Lack of reliable power supply severely impacts the ability of health care facilities to provide effective care for rural populations. Electricity is needed for cold storage of vaccines and medicine, medical lighting, laboratory tests, x-rays, CT scans, as well as ventilators that are essential when treating respiratory diseases, such as Covid-19.

DRE solutions offer an immediate, cost-effective and sustainable solution to this global challenge. as exemplified by ARE Member projects deployed for health care facilities across the world.

By showcasing these projects and sharing lessons learnt, ARE, supported by GET.invest, aims to demonstrate the ability of decentralised renewables to quickly deliver sustainable power supply for rural health care facilities, which in turn can help increase investments in such projects.
