Side Event focusing on Emerging Markets
- Session 1: Enabling Solar Investments in Emerging Markets
Developing solar projects in emerging markets is not straightforward without the right tools. This session brings together speakers from financiers and businesses to discuss the range of financial products and support services available to developers, case studies of successful projects, and the hottest markets for solar.
- Session 2 & Launch: Quality Assurance for Solar Power Plants in Sub-Saharan Africa – Launch of the Best Practice Guidelines
Key to ensuring the success of any energy transition is the assurance of quality during the lifecycle of an asset. Laying the right foundations during the development, engineering, procurement, and construction stages of a project can mean the difference between an expensive, underperforming asset and one with excellent efficiency.
This session will see the launch of the African edition of the EPC Best Practice Guidelines, developed by SolarPower Europe together with African solar and renewable energy associations from Ghana, Kenya, Mozambique, Nigeria, South Africa, Tanzania and Zimbabwe – supported by GET.invest. The document reflects market and business conditions in the sub-Saharan African region and is aimed at EPC service providers and other stakeholders involved in project design and construction of solar PV plants, including asset owners, investors, lenders, and technical advisors. By establishing common industry best practice, the guide can improve transparency and understanding between stakeholders, and ensure that solar PV plants are built to the highest standards.
- Session 3: Solar Supporting Transformative Change
Solar can be a force for good beyond simply providing clean energy. This session brings together entrepreneurs, institutions, and financiers that look to bring about socio-economic change through solar. They shall be discussing their successes, and ways in which innovation can empower people.
High-level session
Powering the future: What next for solar in emerging markets?
Emerging markets globally account for two-thirds of the world’s population and the IEA expects the share of global solar investments in emerging markets to double to 40% by the end of this decade, creating huge opportunities for growth. This session brings together high-level speakers from international organisations representing industry, civil society, and governments to discuss the future of the solar industry in emerging markets.
